“For we know that if our tent--that earthly body which is now our home--is taken down, we have a house of God's building, a home not made by hands, imperishable, in Heaven.”– 2 Corinthians 5:1
Our family left last Wednesday evening to go to my parent’s house. The drive is only an hour and fifteen minutes, but it seemed a lot longer than that to me… mostly because I was anxious to see them and to be there. It had been since before Sarah’s surgery that we had been able to go down there, and it was good to visit with them.
You know, it’s funny… when Sarah and I were first married, I used to think of my going to see mom and dad like ‘going home’… and it still is that to a degree… but, having been married and with our own children for so long now, where we live is now ‘home’.
When I became a Christian, my definition of ‘home’ changed – from ‘this world’, to ‘a much better Place’. But it is only as I grow in my walk with the Lord that the truth of that citizenship becomes real. As I live with a greater understanding of how temporal this life is… and how wonderfully eternal (and how eternally wonderful) my life with Christ is to be after this one has passed, I am consistently being oriented to what my true Home is, and I long to be there more and more.
